Nordic Naturals Partners To Improve Literacy

Did you know that if you read to babies, they will grow up liking to read themselves? Having books on your coffee table provides accessibility to reading for your children. Reading is one of the most powerful gifts you can give you to not only your children, but anyone else, even adults. The ability to read has been shown to increase life expectancy (http://unstats.un.org/unsd/demographic/products/socind/). Reading improves literacy and provides the building blocks to help children experience a better world. Nordic Naturals is helping do this through their Back to School Essentials product promotion.

The Back to School Essentials product promotion supports the U.S. Literacy Program for the non-profit Save the Children. From July 1 through September 30, for every bottle of Baby’s DHA, Children’s DHA™, Omega-3.6.9. Junior™, Ultimate Omega Junior®, and Nordic Berries™ sold at RETAIL stores, $1 will be donated to the Save the Children organization.

As Keri Marshall, Chief Medical Officer at Nordic Naturals, states below, the partnership between Nordic Naturals and Save the Children will pay dividends in the future.

“Supporting learning in children has always been a passion for us at Nordic Naturals,” notes Keri Marshall, Chief Medical Officer for the company. “Omega-3s have proven themselves as important building blocks not only for overall health in children but in supporting a child’s ability to learn. We are proud to be associated with Save the Children and to support their meaningful work to improve childhood literacy in this country.”

Although I personally have not been around communities affected by illiteracy, I know that reading and writing are very important basic life skills. Every baby, child, and adult should have access to learn these skills. If we do not know how to read and write, then we limit ourselves in our potential for education and personal empowerment.

Every parent, relative and friend who has been around babies learning to walk knows how hard it is on their lower back when they hold the baby by the arms to assist in walking. When I came across the Juppy Baby Walker "Momentum," I knew this was a product that I would want to use with my kids. Plus, it makes a great baby shower or 1st birthday gift. Juppy "Momentum" helps to build confidence and balance for your baby and help you to keep your posture upright, preventing lower back pain from being hunched over. Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil [Giveaway]

Welcome to the Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil Giveaway!

http://missfrugalmommy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/pet-cod7.png

Hosted by Miss Frugal Mommy and Sponsored By Nordic Naturals

What is Pet Cod Liver Oil?

Traditionally, Norwegians have used cod liver oil for its nourishing and healthful benefits. It is an ideal source of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, as well as naturally occurring vitamin A. Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil continues this tradition by providing your dog and cat patients and companions with these same important nutrients.

Our Pet Cod Liver Oil is derived exclusively from wild Arctic cod (Skrei), from the Norwegian Sea off the Lofoten Islands near Bodø, Norway. Due to the seasonal variations of food supply for wild Arctic cod, the amount of vitamin A will fluctuate with each batch. Please refer to the product label for the current amount of vitamin A in the product.

Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are important fatty acids for humans and their dog and cat companions because they cannot be made in the body. The only source of EPA and DHA for these species is through the diet and/or supplementation.

Daily supplementation with Omega-3 Fatty Acids helps support optimal health for your pet companion.

The omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) found in fish oil support:
• Cellular health
• Immune system health
• Skin and coat health
• Joint health
• Heart health
• Brain development and maintenance
• Eye development and maintenance

Organic, Natural Sweets with Surf Sweets [Review]

In general, I do not eat many sweets. Do not get me wrong, I have the biggest sweet tooth. I also realize that sugar has no nutrition and is potentially harmful to the body, causing sugar spikes. The point of this post is not to bash sugar, but to open your eyes to the candy that you and your family might be consuming. When I crave candy (often) and when I do buy candy (rarely), I try to get the best product. Yes, I buy organic candy. Why would I want to buy organic candy? Because I want to reduce the number of pesticides and synthetic chemicals and colors that enter my body. Surf Sweets offers all natural, organic candy that is comparable to your standard drugstore candy.

Organic, natural ingredients
Individual packaging is not eco-friendly
No fake colors

sour berry bearsI received four types of Surf Sweet candies: Sour Berry Bears, Jelly Beans, Gummy Worms, and Sour Worms. The package sat on my hot front porch most of the day, so the Sour Berry Bears (opened first) were a little on the softer, stickier side. Nonetheless, Suft Sweets candies were very flavorful! Some are afraid that all natural and organic candies lack flavor, but Surf Sweets had just the right amount of flavor. Flavor and color that comes from organic and all natural ingredients. No high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors and colors. Although the smaller packaging (snack packs up to 2.75 oz) is convenient for on-the-go, I would like to see bulk options to reduce the amount of plastic and trash I use and throw away. I do look forward to trying the other candies from Surf Sweets (available at my local Whole Foods store).

Vegan Vajacial Soap for Post Hair Removal

It is summertime! A lot of us are enjoying time at the pool or at the beach, but we are probably not enjoying hair removal and the ramifications. Let me focus on a specific body part for this post - the bikini area! The itching, redness, and bumps that occur after hair removal can be annoying and uncomfortable. Enter Vajacial Soap from Stript Wax Bar to clear away dead skin cells, reduce bacteria and inflammation, and treat ingrown hairs, dry skin, bumps, and discoloration.

The Good
The Not So Good
Vegan, natural ingredients
Color source unknown
Gentle on your skin

Nice lather

I have a slight obsession with natural soaps. I am constantly impressed by the large number companies selling natural soaps that are comparable, if not better, than your mainstream soaps. My skin feels better and my nose loves the natural scents. I was intrigued to try Stript Wax Bar Vajacial Soap after hair removal (shaving) in the bikini area. As women who remove hair know, shaving in the bikini area causes itching and redness when the hair starts to grow back. My plan was to use Vajacial Soap every time I showered.

I liked that the soap is gentle (no burning on the shaved area) and enough lather to get the bikini area clean. Using Vajacial Soap every time I showered after shaving helped to reduce itching and inflammation. There was only one time that I had to break out the coconut oil, but I had not showered (and thus used the soap) that day. I like that the ingredients are all natural, but would like for Stript Wax Bar to disclose the source of the color.

If you are looking for a gentle, vegan, natural soap to reduce irritation and inflammation after hair removal, I recommend that you try Stript Wax Bar Vajacial Soap. As always, my cross-check of ingredients on the EWG Cosmetic Database showed that Vajacial Soap is safe to keep in my bathroom cabinet.

Wordless Wednesday: What Happened to the Yam?

I cannot say exactly how long the yams/sweet potatoes have been in hanging in a canvas bag in the basement, but I estimate at least 6 months. I finally decided to take a look at them. Two of out five were still usable. The other three, well....they were not rotten....they were rock hard! Out to the compost three go!

Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Vitamin B-12 [Review]

I am not a big user of supplements as I prefer to get nutrients and vitamins from real food. However, I have had low B12 levels in the past. Low B12 level can potentially lead to a variety of health conditions and ailments, so I have to keep a close eye on keeping my B12 level high. Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Vitamin B-12 is an easy way for me to take a B12 supplement.

Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Vitamin B-12
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
Natural ingredients
Slightly chalky taste
Natural pain relief

I have tried several brands of natural B12 supplements in the past. B12 supplements are usually taken with meals so that the body can absorb the vitamin. I like that these tablets are easy to take. A lot of natural B12 supplements have to be chewed, so I like that Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Vitamin B-12 tablets can be swallowed. The tablets have a slightly chalky taste, but it was barely noticeable and did not interfere with my ability to take the supplements on a daily basis. I would like to see Noxicare add a natural flavor like strawberry to the tablets. Then, the product could appeal to a wider consumer base and even children who have low B12 levels. Over, I like that Noxicare Natural Pain Relief Vitamin B-12 has limited, natural ingredients so that I know I am taking the best supplement I can take.
