Dreamtown Kids Organic Pillow [Giveaway]

Is your toddler ready for their first pillow? Dreamtown Kids Organic Pillow is recommended by chiropractors are the "perfect first pillow!" The outer shell is made from 100% organic cotton 200 thread count, grown and sewn in the USA - soft, delicate and breathable! The pillow is filled with premium first class siliconized polyester fiber cluster fill, which is guaranteed to be hypoallergenic.

At a good size of 14" x 19", this pillow is small enough to be taken in the car or for the travel, but big enough for a toddler's and child's head. I love that the pillow is about a medium fill and works quite well for my toddler son. My son does not use a pillow in the crib yet, but he likes cuddling on it on the couch or in the car. I would prefer the filling not to be polyester because we try to limit the use of synthetic materials, but I do like that the cover is made from 100% organic cotton.

Organic Solar Infused Oils [Review]

I love using natural oils for moisture, after sun burn relief, and proactive anti-aging remedies. I also love using oils infused with herbs to help protect and heal the skin. Over the winter, my son had red and scaly skin (probably eczema) from the harsh cold weather. Plus, my hands were so dry and red from constantly washing dishes with hot water. During our beach vacation, we needed an after sun burn relief lotion to soothe our red skin. Organic Solar Infused Oils are a great natural moisturizer and skin healer.

HippieCrap Infused Oils
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
100% organic herbs
Shorter shelf life
No additives or synthetic preservatives

Comes in a dark amber bottle

Hippie Crap offers a wide selection of solar infused oils. These oils are not essential oils, but are oils infused with herbs. Some oils are infused with a single herb like Calendula. While other oils are infused with a mix of herbs. Each oil and herb combination is focused on providing specific remedies and benefits. For example, Calendula Oil soothes skin. Oregano Oil helps with skin infections because of its anti-bacterial properties.

Let's talk about solar infused oils. Each batch starts with organically grown herbs purchased from a grower. The herbs are placed in organic sunflower oils for 6 weeks of solar infusion. Solar infusion utilizes the sun to naturally infuse oils with the goodness of herbs. There are different methods to infuse oils with herbs. The traditional method involves placing the oils and herbs in the sun for a period of time. After the initial 6 week solar infusion, the herbs are strained out of the oil and new herbs are added for a second infusion. I really like the double infusion method to create a strong infused oil. The second fresh batch is infused for another 6 weeks in the sun and the herbs are strained again. A small amount of Vitamin E oil is added to preserve the infused oil. Each batch is stored in a cool, dark place to preserve the infused oils. When an individual bottle is ordered, it is poured fresh from the big batch.

I love that all ingredients are organic and Shelley uses traditional, natural methods to infuse the oils. the smell of the infused oils was strong, but not overwhelming.

The infused oils come in dark amber bottles. Oils should always be stored in dark colored containers to preserve the qualities of the oil and extend the shelf life. Oils that are not stored in dark bottles will oxidize, lose potency and become ineffective. Most oils are available in 2 oz and 4 oz sizes. I found that the 2 oz size lasted us for a long time.

Results: I have been using the infused oils for dry skin, any rashes like diaper rash and cold weather eczema, and after-sun burn care. The sunflower oil is a great carrier oil because it is light and absorbs fairly quickly. To get the oil out, I put my finger on the opening, tip the bottle up and bring it back down, which allows me to get just enough oil on my finger and apply where needed.

Here are the infused oils that I received and how we have been using them:

Calendula Oil - dry, itchy skin; diaper rashes; cold weather eczema, sun burn relief
Chamomile Oil - calming massage
Oregano Oil - homemade anti-bacterial spray (also moisturizes), chest run
Bourbon Vanilla Extract - baking!

Hippicrap uses traditional and natural methods for infusing oils. I love that the ingredients are as organic as can be and the oils are safe to use on babies and children.

Prevent Spills with Silicone Straw Tops [Review]

Your baby has mastered the sippy cup and you are considering introducing a cup. Not only do you worry about the type of material the cup is made from, whether it will break when your toddler throws it or not, but you are also worried about big spills. Inevitably, toddlers will spill stuff from anything that has an opening. This is part of the learning process of using a cup and accidental most of the time. Siliskin silicone straw tops make almost any cup spill proof by cover the top of the cup.

Siliskin Straw Tops
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
Made from 100% food-grade silicone
Not suitable for cups wider than 3"
No spill through air suction
Does take some effort to get on

Silikids Siliskin Straw Tops are 100% food-grade silicone cup covers. No toxic chemicals here! They stretch to fit cups for up to 3" in diameter. There is a small opening in the middle for the straw. The opening fits standard width and wide straws. I used a wide stainless steel smoothie straw and it worked well! The silicone stretches over and grips to the cup to provide an air suctioned seal. These are perfect for using with children's cups because they are spill proof. Each pack comes with 3 straw tops.

Usage: The first time, stretch the straw top a bit to get it to be more pliable. Stretch with both hands and place it over the cup. The tops are not recommended for cups that are wider than 3", but still might be usable. I did not try to use the tops on wider cups. The straw tops are also easy to remove and wash and dry quickly.

My almost 2.5 year old toddler has been using the Siliskin Glass Cup for quite some time. This cup is a great way to teach about glass being breakable and it is small enough to fit into one hand already, though we always stress to use two hands with cups. When I make smoothies, I pour them into the Siliskin Glass Cup with a wide stainless steel straw. Of course, we have had a couple of spills, even though my toddler is fairly careful. I was eager to try the Siliskin Straw Tops with the Siliskin Glass Cup.

Results: I filled the Siliskin Glass Cup about 3/4 full with the smoothie, stretched the straw top to get it to be more pliable and covered the cup. There was a slight learning curve about how to hold the straw top to be able to get a good, even cover of the cup. After a few uses, I was able to get the straw top on easier. The wide stainless steel straw fit right into the straw opening and off my toddler went into the living room with his smoothie. I usually have him stay in the kitchen, but this was a test! Results? No spills! Even when he tipped up the almost full cup and walked around with it, I had no worries.

One of my biggest worries with smoothie is the green color from spirulina or the red color from beet juice or frozen berries getting on the rugs and staining. The Siliskin Straw Tops are a great way to prevent spills from happening. They are also great for covering a drink or something else in a container. My favorite way to use the straw tops is to cover mason jars containing summer drinks and for using outdoors. Bugs always seem to land in whatever drinks I take with me outside and the straw tops are a great way to prevent that.

The silicone straw tops are pretty sticky and stick to glass, stainless steel, and plastic cups. They do tend to gather some dust and lint, but that can be easily rinsed off.

Use your current cups, prevent spills and transition your toddler to straw drinking with Siliskin Straw Tops.

Easy Quinoa Pancakes [Recipe]

I love breakfast recipes that can be quickly made. Fried eggs are my go-to breakfast because they can be made quickly. Serving eggs day after day make me long for something different. Pancakes are my second go-to breakfast. Though they take a little bit more time to make, I have found some recipes that are fairly quick to mix and I always seem to have the ingredients on hand (or can substitute).

A two-ingredient pancake recipe (1 mashed ripe banana, 2 eggs) prompted experimenting with additional ingredients like homemade sourdough starter, stone ground wheat flour, gluten-free flours like buckwheat flour or coconut flour, hempseed protein powder, spirulina powder, or green superfood powder. If the mixture is too dry, I add yogurt or milk (even coconut milk) or more eggs. The recipe below is easy to make and turns out well whether the mixture is too runny or a bit on the dryer side.

Easy Quinoa Pancakes recipe was created on our recent beach trip. I received a few samples of NurturMe Protein Packed Quinoa dried baby food. These individual packets are great for on-the-go and travel. I love that the quinoa powder can be mixed into just about anything to boost protein and nutrition. Just add liquid! During our beach trip, I used the quinoa powder in the pancake batter and also added to my toddler's yogurt. The quinoa powder mixed in smoothly and I could not even tell it was in there. That is a plus in my book! I love the versatility of this powder for any age from baby to adult.

Easy Quinoa Pancakes are an easy breakfast for busy parents and when traveling. To start, a ripe banana is mashed into eggs. Though these are the only 2 ingredients you need for the pancakes to form, you can always add any or all of the additions below.

Easy Quinoa Pancakes

Dairy-free (can omit milk or use nut milks), vegetarian, nut-free (omit nuts)

Yeild: 2-3 servings

Ingredients
1 ripe banana, mashed
2 eggs
1/4 cup quinoa powder (NurturMe Protein Packed Quinoa)

Other Additions (some or all)
1/4 cup yogurt or milk (dairy or non-dairy)
1/2 cup flour (wheat or gluten-free)
1 tbsp hemp protein powder
1 tbsp cup ground flax seeds (can sub 1 tbsp cup chia seeds)
1 tbsp cup chia seeds (can sub 1 tbsp ground flax seed)
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon

Directions
  1. Mash banana into the mixed eggs.
  2. Mix in NurturMe quinoa powder.
  3. Add additional ingredients (some or all).
  4. If mixture is too runny for your liking, add more dry ingredients (flour). If the mixture is too thick for your liking, add more wet ingredients (milk, eggs).
  5. Heat griddle or pan to medium heat with butter or oil.
  6. Cook pancakes for a few minutes per side until golden brown.

Garden: Tomatoes DO Grow Under Black Walnut Trees

Last year, we have been blessed with volunteer sprouts from the compost. After watching them every day to see what they would grow into, touching the plants helped me to identify that infamous tomato plant smell on my hands. I had never planted tomatoes in the garden area because it was located close to a Black Walnut Tree and that was a no-no in the garden world. Black walnut trees secrete a chemical that is toxic to tomatoes, so they either grow just a little or do not grow at all. But here in our little garden oasis, we had 10-15 tomato sprouts! Right under a black walnut tree!

This year, we were blessed with even more tomato sprouts! I counted 15-20+ tomato plants just in the garden. Plus, my husband spread compost in some areas of the yard and the tomatoes were growing there also!

While this might not come as a surprise to most seasoned gardeners, I find the little tomato sprouts a huge blessing every year. In the early summer months, I check every morning for little tomato sprouts. I am always amazed where they grow. I have transplanted them into the garden and thinned out a grouping of 10 plants to spread throughout the garden.

The tomatoes have grown very well in the garden cage, underneath the black walnut tree. They have even grown better than the tomatoes in the container garden in front of the house. Some say it is all about the soil. Other says it is about the location. I say, it is about little blessings! One gardener grows some things well and another gardener grows other things well. That is what it is all about! We grow what we grow well and we share.

Molkky Wooden Outdoor Game [Review]

Our family loves to spend time outdoors. Staying at home with my son gives me the opportunity to take him outside every day. Whether we are visiting a local park, picking green tomatoes from the garden, or just walking around the yard, we always feel better after getting some fresh air. When our extended family joins us, we take the outdoor games out of the garage and enjoy the outdoors. Molkky is an outdoor wooden game for all ages and all fitness levels.

Molkky
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
Made from solid unfinished PEFC wood
Unfinished wood is rough
(needs sanding)
Suitable for all ages and group sizes
Wood gets dented after a few games

Molkky is an outdoor throwing game that comes from Scandinavia and some call it Viking Bowling. based on a combination of chance and throwing accuracy. Molkky is an updated version of an old Scandinavian "throwing game" called Kyykkä that has been around for hundreds of years. One of the best things about Molkky is that just about anyone can place, no  matter the age or the skill level. Groups of all sizes and ages can play together.

Usage: Molkky can be played on grass, gravel, beach, dirt, or any outdoor surface. The wooden pieces are sturdy. The Molkky set includes a wooden carrying crate. Everything is made from 100% natural and unfinished pine wood sourced from sustainable Finnish forest with PEFC certification. I love that this outdoor game is non-toxic and uses no chemicals to finish the wood. After a game simply clean the molkky pins with a damp washcloth.

Play: The pins are arranged in a formation and the skittle pin is thrown to try to knock down some of the pins (similar to bowling). The pins are round and roll after they are knocked down. Each turn the pins are put back up exactly where they rolled from the previous turn so the entire playing area starts to spread out. If a player can skillfully knock down only one pin their score for that turns equals the number on the top of the pin knock down the No. 12 pin 12 points. The first player to knock down exactly 50 points wins the game but be careful not to go over 50 points or you will go back to 25 points.

My Thoughts:

My two favorite things about Molkky is that the pieces are made from unfinished PEFC wood (no exposure to toxic chemicals) and that the game can be played by anyone. When our extended family gets together, we have kids anywhere from 2.5 years to 12 years and adults. Everyone can play this game together. The older kids were able to participate and had a good time playing on a team with the adults. My 2.5 year old son tried to stack the pieces on top of the skittle pin. On a hard surface like the drive way, the pins rolled away too easily, so we switched to grass and it worked much better to keep the pins in the same area.

My two least favorite things about Molkky is that the unfinished wooden pieces are rough. The pins need to be sanded to make the surface more smooth, especially if children are playing with the pins. For the higher price point, I would expect that the unfinished wood surface would be smooth. The pins also got dented after a few games (and some rough play from the kids), but this usually happens with wooden toys.

The wooden Molkky game is an investment, but the pieces will last for a long time in our house. I would like to see the company pay more attention to details like sanding the wooden pins to make them more smooth. I like the storage box and our family has enjoyed playing the game.

Increase Libido Naturally [Review]

I love to write about natural products. There are so many more on the market these days. I also love to find natural alternatives to prescription and OTC medications. When I came across an ancient blend of honey and yohimbe, I was intriguided. Honey Bee Hard is not your standard honey. Honey Bee Hard is a natural male libido enhancer.

Honey Bee Hard
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
Natural ingredients
Percentages of herbs not listed
Made in the USA
Very thick at room temperature

Honey Bee Hard is made from natural ingredients that restore your libido and deliver results during physical activity with your partner.

Honey Bee Hard Ingredients: American Ginseng, Raw Unfiltered Honey, Horny Goat Weed, Saw Palmetto, Tribulus, Maca, Oats, Vitamin B, Yohimbe.

Let's talk about the ingredients. Ginseng gives an energy boost because it boosts endurance. Honey is a natural sugar, so it gives an energy boost without the sugar highs and lows. I really like that Honey Bee Hard is using raw unfiltered honey as this is the best form of honey. Horny Goat Weed (Epimedium) is a natural herb used for low libido and for sexual performance problems. It is also used to arouse sexual desire. Saw Palmetto enhances sexual drive by working as an aphrodisiac. Tribulus (Bindii plant) is used for male virility, male sexual problems, and general vitality. Maca (Lepidium Meyenii) enhances energy, stamina, and athletic performance. It is also used for male sexual problem and to arouse sexual desire. Oats have long been known to increase sexual libido in both men and women. Oatmeal, for example, produces a chemical that releases testosterone, which helps increase sexual drive. Vitamin B helps to regulate sex organs, which correlate with the amount of sex hormones released. Yohimbe arouses sexual excitement and helps sexual problems in both men and women.

I like that the ingredients are all natural herbs and supplements. I also like that most of the ingredients would help improve sexual problems in both men and women, though the ingredient research did not make me thinks that this product would be appropriate only for men.

Usage: Shake vial. Take 1 vial 30-45 minutes before sexual physical activity.

The honey elixir was thick was room temperature and only about 75% of it would come out on its own. I warmed up a cup of water and placed the vial in it. This helped to warm it up a bit and make it more viscous.

The results of drinking Honey Bee Hard will be different for everyone as herbs and supplements work differently on everyone. If you are looking for a "boost," then give Honey Bee Hard natural honey elixir a try.
