Affordable Lightweight Sleeping Bag [review]

Though I'm usually not a rough-it type of girl, I do enjoy being outside in nature. I've done some camping and look toward "camping" in the backyard with my son this summer. A sleeping bag is necessity! Sleeping bags can be used for many different purposes, including camping, backpacking, scouts, and survival. Choosing a quality sleeping bag is a must! EGOZ mummy sleeping bag is lightweight and easy to carry.

Rating: total green check marks out of 5.
Disclosure: I received the product to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own and are honest.

The Good
The Not So Good
Lightweight and compact
Rated for +30F to +40F
Warm

Lightweight mummy sleeping bags are popular choices for sleeping bags because they roll up easily, store compactly in a bag, and can be carried along with other necessities when camping or hiking. In an emergency situation, they are lightweight and compact to be carried along with everything else. The EGOZ sleeping bag is compact enough to be kept in my trunk (that is already full with emergency supplies and a stroller).

Though the sleeping bag is only rated for +30F to +40F, that is what makes it lightweight and easy to carry.

One of the downsides, and what I usually have issues with is getting the sleeping bag back in the bag. I folded the sleeping bag in half and rolled it up. It took some maneuvering and the use of my legs to keep it rolled up while I got the bag back on. Not the easiest!

The zipper was easy to pull up and down. When I was in the sleeping bag, I could unzip by just pulling the top part of the sleeping bag off myself. Securing the Velco piece at the top of the zipper prevents the zipper from moving down.

The EGOZ sleeping bag is 190cm long plus 30cm on top and 75cm wide. I'm 5'4 with a slim athletic build. There was plenty of room in the sleeping bag in both length and width. The top is wide enough for a standard size pillow. Though it does not look like it in the photo, the top of the sleeping bag is wider than the bottom (mummy style). Here is a photo of my 3 year old son in the sleeping bag.

I like the compactness and the size of this lightweight sleeping bag. The EGOZ mummy sleeping bag is affordable. The size will fit most people and will keep you warm in Spring, Summer, or Fall weather temperatures.

Easy Ways to Give Back With Your Kids [February]

One of my parenting goals for this year is to do more volunteering activities with my 3 year old son. While we have done some activities to give back to the community, I usually need motivation to get execute the activities. Giving Families is a great organization that provides Good Mail Challenges, which are monthly activities that parents and children can do to give back to the community together.

The Good Mail Challenges are sent out on a monthly basis in the form of a newsletter. Each month, there is an activity to give back to the community. Alternative activities are also available in case the main activity cannot be completed for any reason. I really like the alternative options because they do not make me feel like I have to complete the one activity to give back to the community. I have several activities to choose from that fit my family and schedule.

Let's talk about the challenges! The February challenge was to visit a nursing home during "Social Hour." Visiting elderly neighbors allows us to make new friends and bring brightness to their days. Since my son is under 3 and it was the sick season, we decided to look at one of the alternative activities. remember not to take sick kids to nursing homes!

For our February challenge, we chose to bring a meal to a neighbor who was recovering from a medical emergency. We baked banana muffins and prepped a chicken pasta casserole. Then, my son and I took the meal and snacks over to their house. Instead of taking the stroller as we usually do for walks, we both walked on foot because the neighbor lived close. The neighbor was very grateful for the delicious food we brought. On the way back home, we talked about helping friends in need. It was a great activity to do together with my son!

One of the things that I like about the Good Mail Challenges from Giving Families is that I have great suggestions for ways that our family can give back to the community together. I can choose an activity that is appropriate for my son's age and fits without our schedule.

Become a member to receive monthly Good Mail Challenge newsletter (via snail mail). You can even have them sent in your child's name so they can get excited about receiving mail!

Prevent Pouch Messes with Pouch Pal [review]

When we started to transition our son to table food, pouches became a hot topic. I felt like every mom around me was pulling out pouches left and right. I finally decided to purchase some for our long drive to the beach. I thought it would be a good option for giving a snack in the car and a novelty for my son. However, at 14 months, he wasn't quite ready to consume the pouches on his own. So, I didn't purchase pouches for a long time. My son is almost 3 years old and can handle a pouch on his own, but I still worry about him squeezing it when it's not in his mouth and making a mess. Pouch Pal is a hard plastic case that houses a baby food pouch in such a way that babies and toddlers are able to suck the pouch dry without being able to squeeze it!

The Good
The Not So Good
Easy to use
Made from plastic
Compact

Does prevent pouch messes

Pouch Pal has a ton of awesome features that makes it the only product of its kind on the market. It has child-resistant latches that little fingers can’t pop open, a curvy design that is easy for those little hands to grasp, and a cap-saver space to hold the cap to the baby food pouch while your kid is snacking.

The Pouch Pal’s design pinches the sides of the pouch and pushes it up from the bottom so that all the food can be sucked out with no vacuum seals forming. The first time I gave my toddler a pouch in the car was in the Pouch Pal. I was confident that he wouldn't squeeze it all over himself and the car seat. Plus, he enjoyed playing with the Pouch Pal cover! If your kid is a thrower, consider wrapping a hair tie around the waist of the Pouch Pal before handing it over to your little one.

The key to successfully loading a food pouch into a Pouch Pal is to “rainbow” the bottom of the pouch and load it from the bottom first. Inserting a pouch into the Pouch Pal is pretty simple, and it will take just a few times to get it down. After using Pouch Pal a few times, I had figured out the trick!

Most major brands (and a ton of smaller ones) are compatible with Pouch Pal. In general, pouches up to 4.22 ounces fit in Pouch Pal. Here is a list of pouches that are compatible. Some pouches with different nozzles, or those where the nozzle is on the side, won’t fit. Here is a list of non-compatible pouches. Trader Joe's pouches are a little on the smaller size, but they still fit well in the Pouch Pal.

Pouch Pal is available on Amazon, and shipping is free if you purchase two or more. The following colors are available: turquoise, cobalt, bubblegum, and coral. Use the Pouch Pal coupon code BRTQLNST for an additional 25% off of your order (expires March 31, 2016)!
