I am starting a new series - Green Motivation Monday. The purpose of these weekly posts is to offer motivation to take a small baby step in the green and eco-friendly direction. Of course, I will be taking the step right along with you. I will let you know how I did and I hope you let me know what you were able to accomplish.
Motivation: Choose to ride your bicycle over driving your car for quick errands.
If you need to run a quick errand like dropping off/picking up mail at the Post Office or buying a few items at the grocery store, ride your bicycle and take a small backpack or satchel with you to keep your valuables and purchases. Not only will you complete your errand, but you will also benefit from the exercise.
>> Have you chosen to cycle over driving?
Thanks for commenting on my Diet Soda post! Wow, you're from Moldova!? I went there on a missions trip to work in children's camps back in 2004. A lot of my relatives are from there, I love that country! :) I'm from Russia myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm now following you back! :)
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few people who cycle to work, which amazes me since we live in Alaska! If we lived a bit closer to his office, my husband would be all for it. But, it already takes him almost 30 minutes to drive and would be closer to an hour to go by bike.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up to the Curious Hop today. I appreciate being able to find some great posts easily. I hope you'll be back again next week to link up and visit other great posts online. If you're interested, we are now taking submissions for featured blogger of the week. You'll find the link in my post for today: http://daybydayinourworld.com/2011/10/wednesday-curious-hop-week-4/
I live in a small rural farming community and most of the people that live here work in the larger cities and towns, which are more than 30 minutes away (driving time). We have a little grocery store in town as well as a bank and a post office. I usually walk when making a quick run to do any errands, as it's less than a mile from my house to any of these locations. Hubby and I keep talking about getting bikes so we can ride together for our health, but haven't done so yet.

Hi! I'm so glad that you found my blog so that I could find yours! :-) I think I'll learn a lot from you! I'm following you and I've added you to my blog roll.
ReplyDeleteWe try to walk/bike instead of driving ... it's good exercise and it's such a pleasant thing to do (great for mind as well as body). When we drive, we make sure to make it as efficient as possible by doing multiple errands and planning our route (so that we're not driving back and forth unnecessarily). We also try to think about whether or not a driving trip is really necessary and if it's not, we forgo it.
Looking forward to more Green Motivation Mondays!
I love to bicycle! Despite being in Alaska..many people do bike to work/school...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Colleen's Curious Hop Wednesday..hope to see you back!
It's so great to see that others are choosing to bike over driving. Cincinnati is not a bike-friendly city, so it's a little difficult to bike a lot of places. I found that if I drive the route and pre-plan, I am more confident about biking instead of driving.

What a great idea for a series! When we lived in the city, I biked as much as possible. I don't feel as comfortable biking on the twisty turny roads where I now live, but we walk to places as much as possible rather than drive.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up at the Green & Natural Mamas Linkup. I'm now following you on GFC and on FB. The linky is now open for this week :-)
