Supa Herbal Greens is a very concentrated herbal supplement. As the above states, the ingredients are high quality, organic, non-irradiated, and are additive free. Basically, you get 100% herbs within the capsule. I usually have a hard time finding natural supplements that are additive-free, especially Magnesium Stearate-free supplements, so I was really excited to try this brand. One of my goals for this year was to add more super green foods to my diet. The Supa Herbal Greens supplement is a great addition and I feel great about taking the supplement because of the organic ingredients.

I also like the ingredients combination of not only super green foods, but also raw seeds and nuts, garlic, and sea greens. I took 2 capsules per day and noticed that my energy did not dip as much as usual throughout the day. Otherwise, I did not notice a significant improvement. I bet if I took 3 capsules up to 3 times a day, my energy would be really high. My goal for taking this supplement is for preventative health.

The vegetarian capsule is a standard smaller capsule and it easy to take.

If you are looking for an easy way to take super green foods on a daily basis, try the organic Supa Herbal Greens green super food supplement.

Benefits of Natural and Organic Skincare Products [ad]

The Benefits of Natural and Organic Skincare Products

With all the talk of natural and organic skincare products, like those you can find if you click here, you’re probably wondering what benefits they actually provide. That is why we have complied the top benefits that these safe and effective items give to their user.

Better for the Environment

Skincare products that are made from chemicals can have a negative impact on the environment. Not only after they are bought but also while they are being produced. During the production of these chemical-filled products, the toxins are released in the air, water and even soil. And when you actively use these products, you are contributing to the demise of our environment. That is why natural and organically created products are so important. When they are made and used, they introduce little to no toxic and dangerous chemicals into the environment.

Less Irritation

Fillers, chemicals and artificial ingredients commonly found in mass produced skincare products are well known in their ability to cause skin irritation, redness and breakouts even in those individuals who have previously never had any problems. The truth is, many people are allergic to chemicals typically found in mass produced items. Using natural skincare products are better for your skin and don’t poison your body with unnecessary and potentially dangerous ingredients.

Improve your Overall Health and Well Being

The ingredients in chemically produced skincare products generally not smell that pleasant. To mask this chemical odor, manufactures use artificial fragrances. This means more chemicals are added to the item to try to hide that chemical smell. And, while the artificial fragrances may mask the original odor, all these chemicals do are increase the chance of headaches and aggravate respiratory conditions like asthma and allergies. Natural skincare products have no need to use artificial fragrances.

Gentler on your Skin

Natural skincare products work better than their chemically-filled counterparts because you’re not introducing irritants, fillers and toxins into your body. Unfortunately, some people stop using natural skincare products because they don’t see the desired results after a short time of use. Because of this, some people don’t get to see the amazing benefits that natural products provide.

Less Side Effects

Mass produced skincare products typically use parabens as a way to preserve the shelf life of the item. Unfortunately, parabens are a synthetic ingredient that can mimic the hormones naturally produced by your body, which can interfere with your body’s natural functions. Natural and organic products, however, don’t contain parabens and thus have less side effects than chemically-filled items.

Adrano Volcano Coffee [review]

Coffee is one of the highlights of my mornings, mid days, and afternoons! I drink coffee for both an energy boost and the flavor. I prefer a strong, bold cup of coffee. Black! Last year, my husband started roasting green coffee beans. This is a great way to obtain organic green coffee beans and roast them to our desired flavor. Heirloom Coffee sources Adrano coffee from small estates in the the Pocos de Caldas volcanic caldera (crater) in Brazil.

Adrano Brazil Volcano Coffee
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
Sustainably grown, direct traded
Not certified organic
Complex, yet smooth flavor and taste

Heirloom Coffee's Adrano coffee is a mix of Mundo Novo, Catuaí and Acaiá varieties of Arabica beans. The small estates in the volcanic crater grow a variety of unusual Arabica bean sub-types. These unusual beans, paired with the unique volcanic soil and microclimate, create beans that have a variety of flavors. Adrano coffee beans are processed with a dry-process. The beans are large, hard, and have a high sugar content due to full ripening in processing. Flavors include buttery aromas and deep, rich caramel. This coffee has won awards!

The Adrano coffee beans are sold green, meaning that they have not been roasted. Roasting at home is easy and doable! My husband has been using a hot air popper that he purchased on Amazon, but I have also seen these in thrift stores. The coffee beans come with instructions for roasting coffee at home. I would recommend looking at some YouTube videos to understand the process of roasting coffee at home. The green coffee beans can also be roasted in a pan as long as you constantly move them around for even roasting.

Usage: First, my husband roasted the coffee beans to the desired roast level. He over roasted just a bit, so they were past the French Roast level. The color of the beans and ground coffee looked almost black and we could taste a little bit of the burn in the coffee, but it was still drinkable. Next time, he will remove the beans from the hot air popper 1-2 minutes sooner. We used an Aeropress to press Adrano volcano coffee - about 2 spoonfuls of ground coffee per 1 cup of water. We like coffee strong! If you make the coffee and it's too strong, you can dilute by adding a little bit of hot water at a time until you reach your preferred strength.

Results: The coffee was strong, bold and smooth. I could taste the caramel notes in the coffee. Even though we made pretty strong coffee, it was not too acidic. I really like the low acidity, especially since I prefer my coffee stronger and stronger causes sometimes irritates my stomach.

If you are looking for unique coffee beans to try, I recommend Heirloom Coffee's volcano coffee. I The flavor profile of the Adrano volcano coffee will appeal to any palate.

Organic Coconut Oil Softgels [review]

Coconut oil is one of my favorite all purpose oils. I use coconut oil for cooking, moisturizing, healing red and irritated skin, and as a supplement. When I purchase coconut oil, I look for organic, extra virgin coconut oil to ensure that I am getting the highest quality with the highest amount of vitamins and nutrients. Eukonic Organic Coconut Oil supplement, in fast dissolving softgel pills, support a healthy heart and provide extra energy.

Eukonic Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil softgels are created from unrefined cold-pressed coconut oil. Each bottle contains 120 fast dissolving softgels, which last 1-2 months depending on how many times they are taken per day. Recommended dosage is 1 softgel taken 1 to 2 times per day, preferably with a meal.

Eukonic Organic Coconut Oil Softgel Ingredients:
Coconut Oil (1000mg), Gelatin, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Vegetable Glycerin, Titanium Dioxide, Purified Water.

Eukonic proposes that the coconut oil supplements support a health heart, weight loss, and provide more energy. I feel like the coconut oil supplement is great for prevention. Although I have not noticed any weight loss (not currently trying to lose weight), I noticed a bit more energy during my recent race training. I felt like my body could push a little more during my runs. This only occurred when I was taking the softgels twice a day. Although I did not experience significant changes, I feel like taking an organic coconut oil supplement is a great approach to staying healthy.

The size of the softgels is a bit on the bigger size. My husband has difficulty taking "horse pills," so he turned his nose up at the size of these. However, I found that they are easy to swallow with a swig of water. Based on the size of the softgells and the additional ingredients, I would assume that 2 softgels provide about 1/2-3/4 of a teaspoon of coconut oil. I know this is quite under the recommended daily intake of coconut oil. However, if you are incorporating coconut oil in your diet in other ways, you would be ingesting much more.

If you are looking for an easy way to take coconut oil on a daily basis, try the fast dissolving coconut oil soft gels from Eukonic.

Go Crazy Over Coffee Crazy's Organic French Roast

Coffee is one of the highlights of my mornings, mid days, and afternoons! I drink coffee for both an energy boost and the flavor. I prefer a strong, bold cup of coffee. Black! During a recent visit to my parents', I rediscovered the French Roast. While I wrote off French Roast coffee in the past, I realized it is exactly what I have needed lately - a darker roast with a great punch of caffeine and flavor. Coffee Crazy has debuted their first blend, Fair Trade and Organic French Roast coffee, a medium to full body blend with a low acidity.

Smooth and bold

Coffee Crazy's French Roast is made from organically grown Arabica specialty coffee beans that are sold at Fair Trade prices. The company is also part of the Rainforest Alliance. There is nothing complicated about these beans. They are organic, dark roasted and whole. The coffee comes in a 12 ounce for $13.95 on Amazon. This is about the average price for Organic and Fair Trade coffee beans.

The whole beans are dark in color. They grind up nicely in my coffee grinder.

Usage: I brewed Coffee Crazy Organic French Roast using my 3 cup glass Chemex. I usually brew 2 spoonfuls of ground coffee per 1 cup of water. I like coffee strong. If you make the coffee and it's too strong, you can dilute by adding a little bit of hot water at a time until you reach your preferred strength.

Results: I poured up a small cup of the coffee and took a sip. The coffee was strong, bold and smooth. I really like the low acidity, especially since I prefer my coffee stronger and stronger causes sometimes irritates my stomach. I am able to drink a couple of small cups of this coffee throughout the day with no stomach irritation, so I know this coffee has low acidity. The caffeine content was just where I like it. The coffee woke me up without giving me too much of a "caffeine buzz.".

If you are looking for an organic French Roast blend that is Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance certified, look to Coffee Crazy. I know you will go just as crazy over this coffee as I have!

Organic Vanilla Bean Powder for Alcohol-Free Gluten-Free Baking [Review]

Healthy baking is one of my passions in life. I love trying to new healthy recipes and I also love taking tried and true recipes and substituting healthy ingredients. Sometimes the recipes turn out well. Sometimes, I am the only one eating "healthy muffins." My new favorite ingredient is Organic Vanilla Bean Powder. Vanilla Bean Powder gives you the true, natural vanilla taste, without the carrier liquids such as alcohol or glycerin.

Sunny Day Organics Organic Vanilla Bean Powder
Rating: total green check marks out of 5.

The Good
The Not So Good
100% raw and organic
Price on the expensive side
Fair Trade

Packaged right after grinding

Package seals tight

Sunny Day Organics Organic Vanilla Bean Powder comes in a 4.23 oz bag. This size might seem small, but you only need a little bit of the vanilla powder, so a little goes a long way. I have been using about 1/2 - 1 tsp each time. The bag contains 30 teaspoons. For the price point, this is on the expensive side, so I would probably be conservative with when I use the vanilla powder and with what foods.

A vanilla bean is the dried seed pod of the vanilla plant. The sun-dried seed pod is ground to make vanilla bean powder, which is a beautiful dark brown color. The powder is a pretty fine consistency, but not super powdered like powder sugar. It mixed well with other items and is not distinguishable. When baking or cooking with it, the vanilla flavor comes through once the items is baked or cooked.

Usage: Vanilla bean powder can be used for just about any culinary use. Of course, you could also use it for body products, but at the current price point, I recommend using it for culinary uses so you can gain the benefits of the vitamins and minerals in this raw product. Vanilla bean powder can be used as a substitute for vanilla extract. Substitute ratio: 1:1.

My Usage: Sunny Day Organics recommends adding a teaspoon to ground coffee before brewing, but I added 1/4 teaspoon to my already brewed coffee cup. I whisked it in with a fork. The powder does not dissolve all the way, but I also did not notice it in the coffee. The vanilla bean powder gave the coffee a really rich and creamy taste, but not overpowering. I usually drink my coffee with 1/2 tsp of grass-fed butter whisked in. The vanilla bean powder on top of the butter was delicious! I have also used the vanilla bean powder in smoothies. For smoothies, I had to add more (1 tsp or more) because the flavor got lost in all of the other flavors.

My Thoughts: The vanilla powder straight out of the bag has a strong vanilla taste, creamy and rich. I tasted a little on my finger because I read some reviews that the raw vanilla powder does not have any taste. My batch had a prominent vanilla taste. In coffee, smoothies, and baked goods, it adds a delicious flavor. My favorite way to use the vanilla powder has been in coffee. I love that I can taste the vanilla flavor. Mostly likely, I will use the vanilla bean powder for small culinary uses like whisking into coffee, sprinkling on top of yogurt, or in simple flavored baking goods. I have yet to try this powder in baked good (have been on a baking hiatus lately).

Here are some of the ways I used the powder and the results:
  1. Straight out of the bag on my finger - moderate vanilla taste after a few seconds
  2. Whisked into coffee with a fork (1/4 tsp) - moderate vanilla flavor; can definitely tell it is in there (might be good to have a fat like dairy/butter for it to bind with); no gritty taste
  3. Added to smoothie (1/2 tsp) - no vanilla flavor; got lost among the other strong flavors
  4. Mixed into yogurt (1/4 tsp) - very faint flavor, could not really taste
  5. Added to banana pancakes (1/2 tsp) - could not really taste
While in some uses, I could really taste the vanilla flavor, in other uses, the flavor was masked by the other ingredients and did not come through as expected. In those cases, I would probably add more of the powder.

Organic vanilla bean powder is a great substitute for traditional vanilla extract that is usually in alcohol or glycerin. If you are living a gluten-free life or you would like to avoid giving items with alcohol to your child, then Sunny Day Organics vanilla bean powder is perfect for you!
