The colder weather brought drier skin. The natural, oil based moisturized I was using during the summer was just not cutting it. I needed something to hydrate and moisturize my skin. Herbal Choice Mari Organic Day Cream is made from natural ingredients and is a good natural winter moisturizer to keep skin healthy and supple.

Herbal Choice Mari Organic Day Cream is natural daily moisturizer made from organic and natural ingredients. The moisturized is oil based but looks like it has been whipped to get a white consistency. My other oil based moisturizers are liquid oils mixed together. This Day Cream is actually a cream. It has an off-white color to it due to the natural ingredients and olive oil base. Like the other Herbal Choice products that I reviewed, I really like that the ingredients list does contain only natural ingredients that I can pronounce and ingredients that I could get myself.

The day cream comes in a dark glass bottle with a matching metal lid. Another big plus because it is usually hard to find beauty products in glass bottles. The dark glass is important for protecting the natural ingredients from going rancid. Let's look at the ingredients list!


Herbal Choice Mari Organic Day Cream Ingredients:
Organic olive oil, purified water (alkaline), wild harvested candelilla wax, organic sweet orange, organic geranium, organic bilberry leaf, organic burdock root, organic sage herb.
The ingredients list is one of the most natural that I have been able to find. I am very excited about this product and this company because of their commitment to high quality, natural products. Since the day cream does contain water and no preservative, the shelf life is on the shorter side. I would recommend keeping the day cream jar in the refrigerator to help prolong shelf life.

Results: The day cream feels lightweight on my fingers, but it goes on heavier on my skin.Just a little bit of the day cream is enough and I can easily spread it over my face. I do have to be very careful about how much I put on my face because my skin will start to look greasy. Some of the day cream absorbs after a while, but not all of it. That's why I feel like this day cream is great for the winter when you might want a heavier moisturizer. Another thing to note is that my skin turned a little red right after rubbing the cream on my face, but I think that's because I was rubbing the skin and not because of a reaction to the cream. The redness went away within 1-2 minutes.

My skin care routine took quite a hit once the weather warmed up. The summer in Cincinnati was humid and my face was on overload with oil production. Close to the end of the summer, I realized that I needed to do a better job of cleaning my face. I signed up for a facial at my favorite local (natural) salon to kick start the cleaning process, but I needed natural products to continue at home. Herbal Choice Mari Organic Facial Cleanser is a lightweight natural cleanser that is customized for different skin types. I like that this natural facial cleanser company offers several types of cleansers based on oily skin, normal skin, blemished skin, etc. The natural ingredient list is another big plus in my book! There are not a lot of companies, especially those that sell on Amazon, that offer such a natural list of ingredients.

The facial cleanser comes in a dark glass bottle with a pump. Another big plus because it is usually hard to find beauty products in glass bottles. I received a sample of the cleanser in a small dark glass bottle. The dark glass is important for protecting the natural ingredients from going rancid. Let's look at the ingredients list!

The ingredients list is one of the most natural that I have been able to find. I am very excited about this product and this company because of their commitment to high quality, natural products.

Results: The cleanser was very lightweight and most of it seemed to absorb into the skin on my face. It was easy to wash off because it wasn't greasy. I have been using oil based cleansers, so this cleanser was a little bit different. I did not feel like did much, but then I realized that this cleanser was gentle enough to not strip all of the natural oils off my face. This is a cleanser that I can see myself using on a daily basis because it is so gentle.

Detox Your Skin with Natural Oils [review]

The transition from warmer temperatures to colder temperatures always results in my skin peeling. Dry winter air leaves my skin feeling dry and tight. This is when I start using a moisturizer that is on the heavier side. However, even using a natural heavier oil sometimes results in breakouts from clogged pores. This winter, I tried a new natural face care system. Amazingly Beautiful face oil serums are specialized for day and evening times to make your skin feel soft and smooth.

Amazingly Beautiful oil serums come in two bottles for an all-in-one facial care system. The day face oil serum is to be used in the morning and during the day. The evening face serum is to be applied in the evening and for overnight. The oil serums come in dark amber glass bottles, which is important to preserve the qualities of the natural oils. Each bottle lasts about 2 months.

Day Face Oil Serum Ingredients:
100% Pure Botanical oils of almond, orange, lemon, avocado and olive

Evening Face Oil Serum Ingredients:
100% Pure Botanical oils of almond, orange, lemon, evening primrose and apricot

The ingredients list is very simple and made from 100% natural oils. This is one of my favorite features about these serums. I know that I am putting only the best and more natural products on my face. Sebum is a natural oil that our bodies produce. Sebum is important for keeping the skin healthy, moisturized, and soft. Using natural oils are moisturizers is important because it feeds the skin what the skin wants. The skin balances out the oil and skin becomes healthy again. If skin is too dry or too oily, it is probably a result of using chemical cleaners and skin products that strip the skin of natural oils. When the skin can produce more oil, it overproduces and results in oily skin. Think about using a harsh soap or facial cleanser - the skin is usually dry and tight after using it. That is not how it should be!

How to Use: Only a few drops are needed for the whole face. I have been using about 3-4 drops. I put one drop on my index finger and start with my forehead. Then another drop for each of the following areas: nose, cheeks, chin. Use how much is needed, but just enough to cover the face. Gentle spread the oil and leave it to absorb. If there is any excess after about 5-10 minutes, blot it off with a tissue and apply less serum next time.

Will the Skin Detox? Maybe! If you have been using commercial chemical and synthetic facial products, then your skin might need an adjustment period while it re-balances the natural oil levels. The detox period can occur within the first 30 days, but should only last 1-2 days. Blemishes and pimples means that the skin is doing its job to remove toxins and build-up. I have been using natural products and other oils, so I only noticed a few pimples here and there. I think this was mostly related to me using a natural facial product on a regular basis and feeding my dry skin.

My Results: I have found the serums to be easy to use. I don't apply the day and evening oil serum every single day, but most days. I usually apply after a shower, after washing my face, or if my skin looks dry. This frequency is the best for my skin. Like I mentioned in the introduction, the skin on my face started peeled as the outside temperatures became colder, so I had to change my face cleaning and moisturizing routine a bit. My skin is now back to normal and I am using the oil serums again. I really like the subtle natural scent of the oils. The bottles are a great size for travel also.

Fluoride-Free Natural Toothpaste My Toddler Loves [review]

After years of searching and trying natural beauty and body product companies, I have realized that the best (all natural and even organic) products come from small businesses. There are many bigger natural beauty brands out there that can be found on the shelves of natural food stores like Whole Foods. However, I am not 100% comfortable with their natural ingredients list. Either not all of the ingredients are natural or some natural ingredients are not quite good for us. I look toward smaller companies that live their mission of providing truly non-toxic products. Morocco Naturals is a company that started after seeing a need for a natural and effective toothpaste. The team wanted to create products that were safe to use on children and adults. They started with high quality essential oils and butters and created health and beauty products that do NOT contain artificial ingredients, preservatives, or chemicals.

I received a sample of products that Morocco Naturals offers, including the Tooth Fairy fluoride-free toothpaste, Congest Ease natural decongestant, and Healing Chrysm all natural pain reliever.

I'm going to provide detailed reviews of the products because I really believe in what this company is doing and I am impressed with their products and ingredient lists.


Tooth Fairy fluoride-free toothpaste whitens teeth, deodorizes the mouth, restores pH balance, calms sensitive teeth, and can heal mouth sores. It is safe for the whole family to use! I was most interested in this fluoride-free toothpaste for my 2.t year old toddler. After 2+ years of using my homemade toothpaste, he started to refuse brushing his teeth with it. I tried a few other natural brands, but he did not like them either. Tooth Fairy toothpaste in CreamSycle has been a hit! He loves brushing his teeth with it. I think he likes that it has an orange flavor (his favorite color and one of his favorite fruits) and is a little on the sweeter side from the Stevia. I was a little hesitant when I read that the toothpaste contains Stevia because I try to limit sugar and sweet tastes, but the toothpaste is not too sweet. Plus, the essential oils in the toothpaste provide real, natural flavor as opposed to "natural flavors" that are found in a lot of kid toothpastes. This toothpaste has a gel like consistency.

 

Tooth Fairy Fluoride-Free Toothpaste Ingredients: 
Baking Soda, Xylitol, Xanthum Gum, Stevia, Vegetable Glycerin, Water, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Essential Oils

>> The ingredients list is about the most natural you can find in a product that is not homemade. Though I do not specifically seek out xylitol in toothpaste, I have read that it has some benefits. I have read mixed messages on Xanthum Gum and Xanthum Gum. Since they are fairly natural and would not really be consumed (other than what little bit is swallowed), I am not too worried. Grapefruit Seed Extract is used as a natural preservative and about the most natural preservative you can find. Since the toothpaste contains water as an ingredient (as does my homemade toothpaste), a preservative is needed for longer shelf life. Essential Oils include orange, lemon, and grapefruit as a flavors. Compared to other natural toothpastes I have come across, this is about the most natural ingredients list you can find for a fluoride-free natural toothpaste.


Congest Ease is a natural decongestant. Congest Ease contains natural butters and essential oils. Essential oils get absorbed by the body and help to relieve congestion and open up the air ways. The natural butters and oils help to dilute the essential oils and help the skin to absorb them. Congest Ease natural decongestant gets rubbed on the chest, back, and the bottom of feet to help eliminate congestion and reduce coughing. I have been using this periodically when my son catches a cold or has a coughing spell or wheezing from outdoor-related asthma. I rub on the chest, back, and feet just before bed and whenever I change him. I have also been using it on myself and have found that it did help to relieve stuffy noses.

Congest Ease Ingredients:
Palm Butter, Mango Butter, Shea Butter, Avocado Butter, Aloe Butter, Almond Butter, Eucalyptus Oil, Menthol Oil, Camphor Oil, Tea Tree Oil

>> The essential oils used as your standard decongestants. I like the mix of natural butters to help the oils absorb into the skin. Each butter has a different viscosity, which helps to create this balm.


Healing Chrysm is a natural pain reliever that comes in a balm you can rub wherever you need. Most common uses: burns, bruising, sunburns, eye pain, tooth and gum pain, earaches, and minor cuts. I was really intrigued by the ingredients list, which contains Helichrysum is an essential oil that heals nerves. Arnica is an all around pain reliever and inflammation and bruise reliever and is found in a lot of natural pain relievers. Tea Tree oil is a great addition to disinfect any cuts or scrapes. I started off using Healing Chrysm on my tight and sore shoulders. I rubbed just a little bit on both sides. A little went a long way. After a little while, the pain reduced. I have also tried it on really chapped lips and found that the lips healed much faster than when I use my standard lip balm. A 2 oz jar of Healing Chrysm is quite an investment (helichrysum oil is expensive), so I have been keeping it for emergency purposes. It does work! And, reapplying is the secret to its effectiveness!

 

Healing Chrysm Ingredients:
Palm Butter, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Helichrysum, Arnica, Tea Tree Oil, Essential Oils

>> Ingredients are pretty standard and 100% natural. Beeswax helps to keep the Healing Chrysm balm on the skim, which the oils and butters help to dilute the essential oils and help them to absorb into the skin. I assume Helychrysum is of a pure essential oil quality, as is the Tea Tree Oil.

My Thoughts: I am very impressed with the products. They work! I will be purchasing more toothpaste for my son since he really likes the Orange CreamSycle flavor. I feel comfortable using these products with my whole family, knowing that the ingredients are ones I can pronounce and are the least toxic to our bodies. 100% Natural Toothpaste [review]

Oral health is very important to me. Taking care of my teeth prevents serious health problems and reduces expensive dental care spending. Over the past several years, I have tried many different brands of natural toothpaste. I have even made my own toothpaste with clay, baking soda, and essential oils. When a bottle of OraMD fluoride-free toothpaste arrived in my mailbox, I was in for a surprise. OraMD is 100% nature liquid toothpaste, mouthwash, and breath freshener all in one!

OraMD Liquid Toothpaste is a revolutionary take on 100% natural, flu. The bottle is made from dark amber color, which protects the botanical oils. The top is a plastic and the bottle has a plastic dropper inside. The size of the bottle is compact enough to keep in a cosmetics bag or in my purse. The dropper has about a medium flow to it, but you do have to watch how many drops come out. The bottle contains 0.5 oz of liquid and lasts about 4 weeks (2 drops per use).

Let's talk about the ingredients. It is very important to me to have 100% natural ingredients. Ingredients that I can pronounce and I know what they are.

OraMD Toothpaste Ingredients:
100% pure botanical oils of Almond, Spearmint and Peppermint.

The almond oil is a carrier oil for the spearmint and peppermint oils. Essential oils should always be diluted, especially for topical application. Using undiluted spearmint and peppermint oils in your mouth can cause burns and sensitization.

Spearmint and Peppermint oils are intended to kill the 22 harmful bacteria that lead to gum disease and other health problems. Plus, they leave your mouth tasting fresh.

Usage: Shake the bottle and apply 2-5 drops on a wet toothbrush. Brush as usual. May also be used as a mouth rinse and breath freshener. Swish with water and spit out.

Safe and effective for ages 3 and up (peppermint oils are not recommended for small children). Safe for any type of dental work including braces, veneers, bonds, crowns, fillings, and dentures. OraMD Breath is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding because mint is contraindicated.

Results: I started off with 5 drops of the liquid toothpaste and quickly realized that it was too strong for me. My mouth was feeling very minty and fresh, but the mint was almost burning. I decreased to 2-3 drops going forward and liked that much better. Every person is going to have a different threshold, so I recommend starting off with 2 drops and increasing if you feel you need more. I love spearmint and peppermint flavors, so I have really enjoyed the fresh feeling and the taste after using this toothpaste.

OraMD recommends brushing with baking soda or similar natural tooth polish every so often if you feel you need a stain fighter. I have been using OraMD for 3 days, then my homemade clay/baking soda/essential oil toothpaste for 2 days, and then back to OraMD. I feel like OraMD liquid toothpaste has been working well. I drink dark coffee and red wine on a daily basis, so I have been supplementing with my homemade toothpaste.

Tea Tree & Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner [Review]

I am always on the hunt for all natural and organic skin care products. I love finding companies that focus on natural ingredients, infused with natural oils and essential oils. Luseta Tea Tree and Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner is a sulfate-free combination of natural ingredients to clean your hair and keep it healthy.

Several years ago, I stopped using conventional shampoos and conditioners. First, I used the no-poo method of baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Initially, my hair looked great, but after a while, I felt like my hair was getting a bit damaged and not really getting cleaned. I switched to natural shampoo soap and my hair improved. Once in a while, I like to use natural shampoos to give my hair a thorough clean. I have oily hair and run on a regular basis, so dirt and sebum deposit on my hair and after a while, I have to use shampoo to help give rid of the buildup.

Luseta's natural shampoo and conditioner offer natural ingredients, including Tea Tree and Argan Oil. Tea Tree oil contains anti-bacterial properties and is great for dandruff and other hair conditions. Argan Oil is a great natural oil to moisture the scalp and the hair. The essential oils used have a great smell, but are not overpowering. I do wish that Parfum was not used as an ingredient and it was only natural essential oils.

The ingredients list is not my favorite, though I do appreciate some natural ingredients. There are a number of ingredients that could be toxic to my body, including Parfum as one of the highest toxicities (as rated by EWG Skin Deep Database). I like that there are essential and natural oils in the list. I hope the company moves to reducing synthetic and toxic ingredients to create a more natural ingredient list. I know this is a challenge to do with shampoos and conditioners though.

Results: I was a little hesitant of trying a shampoo and conditioner with Argan Oil because I cannot use oils directly on my hair. My scalp is on the oily side and any other oils placed on it or my hair make my hair look really greasy. I was pleasantly surprised that the Luseta shampoo by itself did not make my hair look greasy. I felt like the shampoo gave my hair a good cleaning without completely stripping all the oils off. My hair felt very soft. I tried the conditioner one time (I don't usually use conditioner) and I felt like it weighed down my fine hair and make it look greasy. A closer look at the ingredients list revealed why my hair looked greasy and flat - paraffin is an ingredient. It coated my hair and left it looked lifeless. I will not be using the conditioner again.

If you are looking for a more natural shampoo that is also effective, Luseta could be a good combination. The combination of Tea Tree Oil and Argan Oil is great for keeping hair healthy and clean. For my personal preferences, I will pass on this shampoo and conditioner to my mom because there is a number of synthetic ingredients that I want to avoid putting on my body and my hair.
