Dry Skin Brushing [Review]

Dry skin brushing is a new trend for 2015, though this technique has been around for centuries. Skin brushing is also known as body brushing or dry brushing. The technique is simple, yet quite effective. Skin brushing with the Sublime Beauty original body brush is a lost ancient art that results in improved circulation and supports the lymphatic system. Skin brushing not only improves the look and feel of your skin, but goes deep into the lymphatic system to help eliminate toxins from the body.

What is dry skin brushing? Dry skin brushing is brushing your dry skin (entire body except face) in a specific motion to remove dead skin cells, improve circulation, and stimulate the lymphatic system to remove toxins from the body. As we get older, the skin becomes less effective in removing dead skin cells. Dry brushing helps in this process, which in turn helps to remove toxins from the body. The skin is the largest organ and is important in keeping the body healthy.

The dry skin brushing method involves a tool (dry skin brush) made from natural bristles and brushing in the direction of your heart. Meaning that you start from your hands and brush toward your shoulder, or start with your feet and brush toward your thighs. Use medium to long strokes with firm pressure. The brushing itself should feel good, but not hurt. Skin might be a little pink afterwards, but the pink color goes away fairly quickly. Go over each area about 3-5 times, spending a few extra strokes on rough areas like elbows and knees. It is recommended to start with the feet and work up, avoiding any open sores or cuts. And, drink water afterwards to hydrate and help the body to expel toxins.

The body brush is two sided. One side has the boar bristles and the other side has plastic nubs, which are used to soften cellulite. I like that the bristles are made from natural boar hairs. I also love the long wooden handle, which makes it easier to reach hard places like my back. I found that both sides were pleasant to use and made my skin feel good. The process of brushing my skin was relaxing and therapeutic.

Usage and Results: I have used a wet brush in the shower with soap and have enjoyed the way my skin feels afterwards. Adding the dry brushing routine has been easy for me. I usually brush right before showering. It only takes an extra 5 minutes and my skin feels so soft and supple afterwards. I follow up with an application of body oil after the shower to hydrate the skin.

Some of the boar bristles did come off, but very few. I know this is common with natural bristle brushes and it does not bug me. The bristles do have a good stiffness to them. When using medium firm pressure, the bristles do give a good brushing. Someone with very sensitive skin should use light pressure until they get accustomed to the brushing. I enjoyed the feeling of the bristles brushing against my skin.

I would recommend Sublime Beauty Body Brush to be a part of any natural beauty regimen. Sublime Beauty has extensive knowledge about skin brushing and continues to improve their product and knowledge offering.
