The Not So Good
Comes in a dark amber bottle
Country of manufacture not listed
Herb source not listed
Sprouts Cold Remedy contains herbs and extracts that provide anti-bacterial and anti-fungal benefits to help the body resist and heal from common illnesses, like the cold. Though his remedy is indicated for colds, the combination of herbs can be used to boost immunity and fight off other common illnesses. Sprouts took your common immunity boosting herbs and put them all together in one bottle.
The bottle is made from dark amber glass. This is very important to preserve the qualities of the herbs and extend the shelf life. Herbs that are not stored in dark bottles will oxidize, lose potency and become ineffective.
Sprouts Cold Remedy Ingredients
Echinacea purpurea herb, red root, green tea leaf, elderberry fruit, thyme herb, red clover herb, myrrh gum, orange peel, mullein leaf, ginger root, vegetable glycerin, deionized water
All of the herbs, whether they are root extracts, leaf extracts, or fruit extracts help to boost the immune system, which in turn helps to prevent the body from getting sick and also helps the body to recover faster from common illnesses. Vegetable glycerin and water help to keep all ingredients mixed together. Vegetable glycerin tends to give a slightly sweet taste that helps offset the bitterness of some of the herbs. I am surprised that this product does not contain a preservative since water is an ingredient. Though I am not sure that water is needed for the mixture, unless to dilute it.
Usage: My usual immunity boosting drink contains some of the herbs above. The herbs I use are pure extracts (either in alcohol or vegetable glycerin). The taste is strong! It is recommended to dilute in a glass of water. Therefore, I was expecting Sprouts' herbal formula to have a strong taste also. I found Sprouts Cold Remedy to have a pleasant and slightly sweet taste to it. My 2 year old son even took the remedy without a problem. It is usually hard to get him to take Echinacea, even diluted in water. I really like that I use this Cold Remedy formula with him when he has been exposed to germs or is sick. I use a little shot glass, add about 25 drops to it and fill to the top with water.
Results: From personal experience, Echinacea has always worked for me to reduce cold symptoms and recover quicker. Sprouts Cold Remedy add other immune boosting, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal ingredients and they work! When I felt like my toddler and I were starting to come down with cold symptoms, I started taking the Sprouts Cold Remedy immediately, twice a day. We were able to fight off whatever we felt like we were exposed to.
I was disappointed to see that the country of origin, the country of manufacture and the ingredient percentages not listed. With herbal remedies, it is important to know the source country. Herbs that are grown in their native habit and environment will be more effective and of higher quality. I hope that Sprouts add this information to their bottles.
I would purchase Sprouts Cold Remedy again and would recommend it to be a part of your natural medicine cabinet. The flavor combination is not offensive and the ingredients are effective.
